I was really curious to see 'Queer as Folk' - most of my gay friends watch it and some are true fans of the series. Privately being a fan of 'The L Word´ myself, I expected the ´gay equivalent´ of my favorite soap to be at least as good and interesting plot-wise. After all, the male gay scene is composed of various and colourful individuals among which many work in artistic professions, etc and so the field for imaginative intrigues seems, theoretically, unlimited.
To my totall disapointment, ´Queer as Folk 2´(an extract of the supposedly most interesting moments of the first British season) turned out to be more boring than most straight soaps I´ve seen. The plot evolves around the everyday life and problems of two lovers/friends of which one is absolutely emotionally unstable and the other seems masochistacally atracted to him. The third character highlighted is a boy turning sixteen.
So - what does an unbiased lesbian get when attempting to watch ´QaF2´? Intelligent plots and diverse situations combined with witty and funny dialogues like in the L word? Or rather - a mixture of the most common stereotypes on gay men, such as their urge to perceive the surrounding beings as potential sexual partners, regardless of the situation? Sadly, the latter.
